From Boardroom to Dressing Room

Yes all,

The big night has arrived to demonstrate my skills in the sweet science. I've been training pretty hard with Michael Isgro who is an ex Australian Heavyweight boxing champion and after weeks of buffeting, bleeding, bruising and (mostly) fending off Dick's overarm right cross I am ready to step into the ring.

The only details I have of my opponent at this time are that he is a 36 year old stockbroker weighing about 90 kg. He was supposed to lose 5-8kg (I am down to 82) but I am hoping this is all lard and hence to my advantage as usually the heavier fighter has an edge…

Dear Michael,

Just a note to say thanks for the excellent boxing training you 've been giving me over the last year. The learning curve has been a nice even one and despite the fact that we are talking about a pretty rough and tumble sport I've never felt threatened or in trouble. I particularly appreciate the personal attention you have given my development, pushing me to improve and build my confidence.

I've got a few university degrees, my own business and I was recently quoted in BRW as a success story. However, I don't think any of that gave me quite the same rush as strapping on the headgear for the first time when we started sparring. Winning my first amateur boxing bout at age 38 was a tribute to your skills — you taught me not just technique but, more importantly, how to win.

And on top of that I've lost nearly 10 kilos — I never thought I'd actually ever lose those love handles.

Thanks again for a huge and very appreciated effort and here's looking forward to more good times in the gym.

Regards,
Steve Watson
